I have a question and don't know where to put it, but since it isn't really
important, I'll stick it in here.
I see in the whose on line place that we are frequented by; Googlebot and
Yahoo! Slurp. Can anyone tell me what they are? Are they like search type
things? Are they welcome, or just tolerated? I really have no idea.
Idz, Jenny, Babs???
Thanks

they kind of creep me out

I was wondering the same thing, Wilma.
So I googled it....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Googlebot

It looks like it's some kind of automated service
to collect and save web information.
I guess they serve a purpose in some respect,
but I do agree with you, they are not official
JDa members and don't fit in as "admirers on line".
They are creepy

They are as choc said, automated data collectors. We have had them at every site
but at this one, their name appears instead of guest. As far as I know, the permissions
page in the admin panel limits their ability to collect much data from the forums.

Idz? You can correct me anytime.
yes they come and crawl all the time. the cannot steal locked up data like your addies and such.. but they do record our posts and our screennames. They also measure relevant content and it helps our placement status in search engines
You can see how much you are really tracked on the web by Googling your screen name. it is very odd. Nothing is sacred online..

Anyhow.. they have been crawling us for years and almost everywhere you go is crawled. I used to kick them out of the old board cause it slowed it down.. but this new amazing place... just keeps a rolling.

any other questions???
Wakingup

I didn't know this was a Q&A for
cooked meat...So I dare to ask, what's the deal with bratwurst?

Choc chimed in...

I had nothing to do with that.
I'm completely innocent.:OMG:

It was s'plained to me a few days ago cuz
I was kinda unnerved by the same thing, Wilma.

And...even tho I understand it, when it is late
at night, or in the wee hours and the onliest
ones 'ONLINE' are:

cc
googlebot
Yahoo Slurp

I sorta feel, momentarily, like I'm walking
down the street and some unsavory characters
are behind me. too funny too funny

By the same token, I've sometimes wondered
why a slip is called a petticoat...of which now
I own none, for they are of no use whilst wearing
my uniform: flannel loungers and a cotton long-sleeved
shirt.

We see where this thread is heading, eh?

And I for one, will enjoy the hell out of it.
And you see now why it is unnecessary for me to drink.

Chocolat

Well said, CC ~
and to elaborate on your query,
why is a petticoat aka a crinoline?
They were rather scratchy as I recall.
Which would be contrary to a slip.

And why is sweetbread called sweetbread?
For tis neither sweet nor a bread....
Things that make you go hmmm
I don't know about Sweetbread at all.

As for the slip, petticoat crinolines...
I think I still have every one I ever owned, and a few that belonged to my
grandmothers. I rarely wear any of them, but I like them.
Antique undies.... they just don't make 'em like they used to.

Now my question;

Why do cows have four teats?

I have wondered about this ever since I knew what lactation was.
Most mammals have two, or in the case of animals who have litters of young,
many, to correspond approximately with the number of young that they
produce.
So why do cows have four?

I have asked dairymen and cattle breeders. (Yes I do know
dairymen/women and cattle breeders.) No one has an answer.

and another thing...
why do I wonder about this?

Chocolat

All valid questions, Wilma.
I wish I had the answers, but this is why we
have this forum, right?

Like the Wizard of OZ, we may have to wait
to see the Oracle behind the curtain to
be enlightened.

I'm just glad that we don't have four teats.

Johnny in a bra....wonder what size he wears?

efore he check the email....well you see what I'm getting at here right?

Smitts,

Go to CP (control panel)

on left side bar click on Edit Options

On the Edit Option page under "Messaging and Notification"
UNCHECK the last box: Notify me by email etc.

then scroll to bottom and click on the Update button.

That should dew it.
