Putting Johnny on the spot -- dozens respond to Daily Register request: What one question would you ask Depp?
Cory Schaefer / Capital Newspapers

"Public Enemies" set worker Kellie Prager works on piecing cobblestones together Thursday in Columbus.

The Daily Register wanted to know the one question you would ask Johnny Depp if you encountered him on the streets of Columbus while he was filming "Public Enemies" next week.

Online readers from around the country and even people overseas responded.

Depp, who is portraying John Dillinger, will star with Christian Bale as the FBI agent tracking him in the Michael Mann-directed film. Workers continued to transform Columbus into a 1930s city Thursday, including putting down a cobblestone street.

Shooting is expected to start Monday. How long they will film in Columbus is not certain.

Here are some responses.

-- Cynthia Bennett of Portage: I read at one time that you wanted to make movies that your children would be able to watch and be proud of. Why was there so much blood in "Sweeney Todd"? I am afraid to see it because of what I have heard! Also, what do you think of Wisconsin?

-- Pattie Luett of Portage: Do you regret ever going into the movie business and do you miss the easy-going, care-free life because you are an actor?

-- Katie Schultz, Wyocena: I would just tell him "hi" and let him know I enjoy his films. I would hate to annoy him and ask questions.

-- Marcia Sparks, Fall River: I would ask him if he is going to put a little Johnny Depp in his new Dillinger profile? You know, a little bit of the JD twinkle in the eye and a feather in his cap? Just a touch of his personality to come through in his John Dillinger character.

-- Beverly Payne, Lawrenceville, Ga.: Since he is a big reader ...What are you currently reading? Since he was a musician first ...What is the latest CD he's bought or song he has downloaded? And ...what's his high score on Guitar Hero?

-- Nancy Chandler, Jacksonville, Fla.: Are you still going do the "Dark Shadows" movie?

-- Els Derho, Wetteren, Belgium: First off, that would be a miracle as I live in Belgium, but if I were to run into Johnny Depp, I would ask him this: If a person like myself invited you to a cup of coffee if you were ever in the neighborhood, would you take them up on that offer or would you think it was too weird to just sit with a fan (who would for once, not treat you as the celebrity you are, but just a nice person to have a coffee with) and chat about the kiddies and just plain daily stuff?

-- Mary Minor, Rockville, Md.: How long does it take for you to read a script before you decide if it's good or bad?

-- Shirley Jensen, Waupaca: How does it make you feel to be a part of the history of the year 1930 when famous gangsters actually were in everyday life?

-- Kelly Dickey, Pawhuska, Okla.: Why do you not have your own Web site where you can field the gossip that is rampant about you with the truth?

-- Cherie Ruiter, Holland, Mich.: I would ask Johnny which actor or director (who he has not worked with yet) would he most want to make a movie with.

-- Romina Ivanoff, Portland Ore.: Johnny, what is the best/favorite scene that you ever filmed so far (from any of your movies)?

-- Eileen Clark, Branson, Mo.: Johnny, you should make a movie about Jack Sparrow before the Black Pearl that shows how he and Davey Jones made the deal on the Pearl. Would you do it and would you help write the script since Jack has become such a part of you?
